BBGA’s June 2025 event lineup connects bakers

PROVIDENCE, RI — The month of June is stacked with education resources from The Bread Bakers Guild of America (BBGA), with topics ranging from bagel making to policy updates.

Check out what the BBGA has in store for June:

New Member Orientation

June 9 | 4-5:15 p.m. ET

The BBGA will host a virtual orientation via Zoom for new and existing members to learn more about the resources, connections and opportunities available. Attendees will be able to connect with other Guild members, meet the team and board, hear more about upcoming education and events, tour the website and learn how to make the most of their membership.

BagelUp Industry Masterclass 

June 10 | 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET

Presented in partnership with King Arthur Baking Co., the BagelUp Industry Masterclass is designed to educate and inspire around the craft, culture and business of bagels. Held in New York, this program brings culinary professionals, students and enthusiasts together to explore what makes the bagel industry unique.

Participants will travel to four NYC bagel shops — Apollo Bagels, Utopia Bagels, Russ & Daughters and Bagel Market — and experience behind-the-scenes access and discussions, diving into a range of topics, including production techniques, hospitality, marketing and business strategy. Sam Silverman, founder of BagelUp, will lead the program and provide expert insights into the city’s bagel scene.

The program includes a hands-on class at Bagel Market, led by award-winning baker Reva Castillenti. Participants will learn how to craft a better bagel by comparing dough formulas and processes, as well as mastering the traditional rope-and-loop shaping method.

A Hearthside Chat with Azikiwee Anderson of Rize Up (Free and for members only)

June 16 | 7-8 p.m. ET

In celebration of Juneteenth, Azikiwee Anderson, founder of Rize Up Bakery in San Francisco, will lead a hearthside chat about his background and how a personal experiment in his home kitchen during COVID-19 evolved into a successful bakery. He will discuss Rize Up’s founding and his bold sourdough creations, which are infused with innovative ingredients such as ube, gochujang and masala spice.

Azikiwee will be joined in conversation by Kobla Asamoah, BBGA board member, managing partner at Caminus Ventures, and an advocate for Black entrepreneurs in food and beverage. Together, the duo will explore the meteoric rise of Rize Up, the challenges and triumphs of being a Black business owner in a historically white industry, and how bread can become a powerful force for inclusion, connection and change.

Knead to Know: Policy & Regulatory Updates for the Baking Industry

June 23 | 4-5 p.m. ET

Presented in partnership with the American Bakers Association (ABA), this free virtual policy webinar will explore the latest regulatory and legislative developments impacting the baking industry under the new administration. Campbell Genn, senior director of government relations at ABA, and Thomas Bailey, director of government relations at ABA, will share key insights and updates on a range of pressing issues, including tariffs and their impact on essential baking commodities and equipment, key tax and trade policy developments, workforce regulations, immigration policy updates and emerging changes in nutrition policy.
