New c-suite execs set Shipley Do-Nuts up for growth

HOUSTON — Over the past year, Shipley Do-Nuts has made several major moves to spur its business forward, including a change in private equity ownership and expanding into two new markets.

The latest move strengthens its c-suite with three new leaders. The Houston-based donut and kolache bakery brand announced the appointments of Matt Kafka as COO, Todd Brin as chief development officer and John Feray as CFO.

“Each of these leaders brings a depth of experience that positions Shipley for our next stage of growth,” said Flynn Dekker, CEO of Shipley Donuts.

Brin first joined Shipley in 2025 as VP of design and construction, bringing more than 30 years of unit development, operations and strategic leadership experience to the role. Kafka, with nearly three decades of restaurant experience under his belt, most recently served as Smoothie King’s senior VP and interim COO. Feray’s experience includes several financial leadership roles at companies including Dollar General Corp. and RadioShack.

“From John’s experience and lifelong connection to the brand to the franchise leadership and multi-unit growth expertise that Matt and Todd bring, this expanded team will help us build on 90 years of tradition while accelerating the next chapter of this iconic brand,” Dekker said.

This is the fourth c-suite appointment in the last three months. In January, the donut chain announced Bill Leibengood as its new chief marketing officer.
