WASHINGTON, DC — In anticipation of National Small Business Week, observed May 4-10, the US Small Business Administration (SBA) announced its list of Small Business Persons of the Year.

“For more than 60 years, National Small Business Week has honored the risk takers, innovators and job creators who are the backbone of the American economy,” said Kelly Loeffler, SBA administrator. “I congratulate the more than 50 state and territory winners on their recognition and look forward to this week of education and appreciation for entrepreneurship as we highlight the small business owners who fuel prosperity, growth and opportunity in communities across our country.”

Michelle Nicholson, owner and founder of The Flour Girl Bakery Cafe, was named Connecticut’s Small Business Persons of the Year and is the only bakery recognized in this year’s list.

Founded in March 2022, the Hebron, CT, bakery previously received the People’s Choice award and took silver in the sourdough category at the 2022 World Bread Awards. Flour Girl offers an assortment of baked goods including cookies, muffins, scones, sourdough and baguettes.
