PROVIDENCE, RI — The Bread Bakers Guild of America (BBGA) has released the lineup for its May 2025 events, packed full of community bonding and insights from successful bakers.
Check out what the association has in store this month:
Guildhall Gathering at Bread Alone
May 10 | 2-5 p.m. ET
The association is hosting an exclusive tour of Bread Alone’s carbon-neutral Boiceville, NY, bakery. Participants will get a behind-the-scenes look at their production facility, followed by a Q&A with Bread Alone team members including Sharon Burns, co-owner and chief administrative officer, and Gonzalo Lanao Tapia, head baker and director of production operations.
After the tour, attendees will enjoy wood-fired pizza, a beer or house-made soda and networking with fellow bakers.
A Hearthside Chat with Lauren Haas
May 12 | 7-8 p.m. ET
This BBGA member-exclusive conversation with Lauren Haas, pastry innovator and professor at The Culinary Institute of America, will cover what it takes to work in some of the most respected kitchens in the country. Lauren will detail her work and passions and explain how to stay creative in a fast-paced, ever-evolving field.
Variations of Sourdough
Day 1: May 19 | 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET
Day 2: May 20 | 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET
This two-day course, hosted by King Arthur Baking Co. in Norwich, VT, and led by baker Lucas Diggle, will deepen participants’ understanding of sourdough products and processes. Participants will produce a variety of breads and explore foundational factors such as build schedules, hydration, flour selection and fermentation times. They will examine how temperature influences flavor profiles, dough characteristics and production timelines, learning to manipulate these and other variables.
San Francisco Bakery Crawl
May 20 | 9:30 a.m. to noon
Participants of this tour will experience a day of bread, community and discovery as they explore some of San Francisco’s popular bakeries. Led by Guild member Allen Cohn, the tour will visit four incredible spots, sampling baguettes and croissants at each and comparing how they execute these classics.
The tour includes stops at Jane the Bakery, Acme Bread Co., Arizmendi Bakery and Black Jet Baking Co.
