KANSAS CITY, MO — The International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE) is just around the corner, to be held Sept. 13-17 in Las Vegas. From a vast show floor spanning two halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center filled with an array of exhibitors to bountiful IBIEducate offerings, bakers of all scales can benefit from attending Baking Expo.

Smaller bakery operations, such as those with a couple of storefronts, can find opportunities to connect with other members of the industry as well as showcase their skills.

“Attending IBIE is essential for retail bakeries because it offers access to the latest trends, innovations and technologies shaping the industry,” said Marissa Sertich Velie, executive director of the Retail Bakers of America (RBA), which supports the tradeshow. “For smaller bakeries, it’s an invaluable opportunity to discover cost-effective tools, equipment and techniques that can improve efficiency and enhance product quality. Additionally, it provides a space to network with industry professionals, learn from experts and gain insights that are tailored to the unique challenges of smaller bakery operations.”

Leaving a bakery for a couple of days may be a reluctant decision, but attending the show may be a worthwhile investment for a business’ future.

“By budgeting for the show, retail bakers ensure they stay competitive in an ever-evolving industry,” Marissa continued. “The insights and connections gained can lead to smarter purchasing decisions, operational improvements and new product ideas. Plus, the educational sessions offer training that might otherwise require separate travel and time commitments, consolidating costs into one impactful event.”

As part of the education offerings, retail attendees can drop by different stages to learn from an assortment of industry experts. The RBA Retail Bakers Center, for example, features a schedule of live demos presented by celebrity chefs and major figures in the industry while the Artisan Village offers bakers a space to celebrate the history and art of specialty baked goods. Attendees can also drop by the Wholesale Bakers Center to connect with other bakers who specialize in this sector of the industry to gain insights and business strategies.

Whether it be social events, panels or hands-on sessions, there are various ways for bakers to connect with and learn from one another at Baking Expo. The Cake Decorating Competition, powered by Pillsbury, and the IBIE World Bread Awards offer bakers the opportunity to showcase their skills, elevating the presence of their bakeries among the industry.

For those looking to expand their business, having access to the latest equipment, ingredient and packaging innovations can give bakery owners the upper hand to adequately meet ever-evolving customer demands. On the fiscal side, bakery owners can walk away from Baking Expo with additional ideas and strategies to better their operations and profitability, opening the door for growth.

“Attending IBIE is the perfect chance for bakery owners to get out of the bakeshop, connect with like-minded professionals and recharge their passion for the craft,” Marissa added. “Also, it’s fun to be at IBIE.”
