NEW YORK — Whole Foods Market announced a nationwide initiative alongside Too Good To Go, a Certified B Corp that helps distributors reduce food waste.
“We are excited to join forces with Whole Foods Market, a company known for its dedication to quality and one that shares our passion for sustainability,” said Chris MacAulay, VP of operations North America for Too Good To Go. “A significant milestone, this collaboration allows us to give millions of consumers across the country a simple way to join the fight against food waste.”
Through this partnership, Whole Foods shoppers can purchase Surprise Bags of surplus food items from more than 450 stores in the US. Bakery Surprise Bags are priced at $6.99, with a $21 value.
“Our bakery surprise bags feature breads, muffins, scones and cookies at a discounted price,” said Caitlin Leibert, VP of sustainability for Whole Foods Market. “We’re proud to build on our work to reduce food waste at our stores while increasing access to our bakery and prepared food items for the communities we serve.”
The initiative continues Whole Foods’ commitment to cutting food waste in half by 2030. Last year, the company donated roughly 34 million pounds of food to various food programs across the US.
“We are thrilled to be part of the Too Good To Go community,” Liebert continued “As part of our purpose to nourish people and the planet, we continue to invest in new and innovative ways to keep unsold food out of our landfills and empower our customers to make environmentally conscious choices. We’re proud of the work we’ve done but are so excited to expand that work with the help of Too Good To Go.”
