KANSAS CITY, MO — Social media platform Pinterest has released its 2024 forecast of trends to watch.
The report covers an assortment of emerging trends to keep an eye out for in the new year and, according to the brand, serves as a guide for what consumers will be interested in.
For 2024, Pinterest called out a couple of trends based on user traffic that bakers can pull from for inspiration.
Tropics Like It’s Hot
This trend, which is under food and beverage but also spans categories such as fashion and decor, nods to an interest in tropical flavors and motifs. One example includes a 50% increase in searches for crushed pineapple upside-down cake. Pinterest also noted that this trend resonates most with Boomers and Gen Z.
Inchstones
While this trend technically falls under the parenting category, the board inspired by the Inchstones trend points to increasing interest in making the little moments a major opportunity to celebrate, especially among new parents. This includes things such as tooth-shaped cookies and little cakes to celebrate miniature milestones such as a baby’s first tooth or steps.
Groovy Nuptials
When it comes to weddings — and by association, wedding cakes — the ‘70s are making a comeback in 2024, with everything from disco-inspired decor to bohemian motifs making their mark on Boomers and millennials. Pinterest’s board for this trend, for example, showcases three-tiered wedding cakes with warm-colored accents, curves made of fondant, flower power donuts and shaggy carpet-inspired frosting.
