WESTLAKE, OH — The Retail Bakers of America (RBA) launched a new initiative to honor outstanding bakeries through its partnership with the Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and History.

The museum and cultural center in Kingston, NY, preserves and shares immigrant stories in the US with a focus on food and family business. The center is housed in what was Reher’s Bakery, an immigrant Jewish bakery run by the Reher family for 80 years.

The association’s collaboration with the Reher Center invites RBA members to nominate bakeries to become “Reher Recognized.” This distinction is meant to celebrate a bakery that stands out for its dedication to cultural traditions, innovation in baking and commitment to serving its community.

“We are excited to partner with the Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and History to shine a spotlight on the incredible stories and traditions within our baking community,” said Marissa Velie, executive director of RBA. “The collaboration allows us to celebrate the rich cultural heritage that many of our members bring to their craft, while also highlighting the meaningful impact bakeries have on their local communities. We look forward to recognizing and sharing the important impact of retail bakeries in the community through the ‘Reher Recognized’ program.”

RBA members can nominate their own bakery or other bakeries via this Google Form. Bakeries that receive the Reher Recognized distinction will receive a certificate and be featured on RBA’s website, social media and upcoming newsletters.
