WASHINGTON, DC — The American Bakers Association (ABA) and Retail Bakers of America (RBA) joined forces with the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.

“It’s incredible to see retail and commercial bakers come together to share their talent and generosity,” said Marissa Sertich Velie, executive director of RBA. “Our members show what makes this industry so special: craft, creativity and community. This collaboration is a beautiful example of how bakers across the country support one another and use their skills to make a difference.”

The milestone was honored through celebrations held in state capitol buildings across the country, recognizing the Corps and its centuries of service. RBA and ABA members donated cakes for the celebrations to recognize representatives from the Marines, state governments and the baking industry.

“The baking industry was honored to come together in tribute to the brave men and women of the United States Marine Corps,” said Eric Dell, ABA president and CEO. “By raising their hands to bake and donate cakes for these events across the country, our members demonstrated their collective gratitude for the courage and sacrifice of our nation’s service members, and the baking community’s unwavering commitment to supporting our heroes.”

“For 250 years, the Marine Corps has embodied the highest ideals of service and sacrifice,” said Maj. Gen. James Lukeman, USMC (Ret.), president and CEO of Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. “As we mark this milestone, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation is honored to partner with the American Bakers Association in bringing this celebration to communities nationwide. Their generosity reflects the same spirit of pride and purpose that has guided Marines throughout our history.”

The collaboration showcases the baking industry’s commitment to honoring America’s history, uplifting its communities and celebrating its spirit of service.

The list of ABA and RBA member companies that donated cakes for the celebrations included AMF Bakery Systems, Bimbo Bakeries USA, Coperion, Corbion, Klosterman Baking Co., Puratos and Richmond Baking Co.
