JACKSON, MI — National Donut Day is Friday, June 2, and retail bakers across the country are already prepping for what is typically a busy day, both in terms of consumer traffic and sales. With the donut market expected to grow by more than $5 billion dollars by 2025 — with 35% of that growth in North America — having a comprehensive donut program can help bakers drive sales even higher.

Ahead of the big day, Dawn Foods shared its top four strategies to help bakers get the most out of their donut program.

Best practices for donut sale success

Here are Dawn’s four strategies for optimizing a donut program.

Refresh recipes to reflect consumer tastes. “We encourage bakers to plan a donut menu that reflects what consumers want,” said Bryan Fitzsimmons, director of insights and marketing channel strategy at Dawn Foods. “This means adding new flavors, perfecting traditional favorites, and offering seasonally relevant limited-time offers.”

Leverage social media. A little social media marketing can go a long way toward creating excitement.

Encourage customers to get in on the fun. People love posting on social media. Asking customers to snap a photo, tag the bakery and share it is an easy way to increase visibility, especially when the bakery reshares those tagged posts.

Make every day National Donut Day. The celebration doesn’t have to stop after June 2. A comprehensive donut program can help boost sales throughout the year by positioning the product as an any-time-of-day indulgence.
