ATLANTA — Piece of Cake is set to be acquired by Chicken Salad Chick, a fast-casual restaurant chain based in Atlanta. The restaurant chain’s acquisition of the local bakery brand is a strategic move to expand and improve Chicken Salad Chick’s dessert menu.

“After nearly 40 years, it seems like the right time to pursue this opportunity with Chicken Salad Chick,” said Melissa Bunnen, founder and CEO of Piece of Cake. “Both brands began in home kitchens — Piece of Cake in my Atlanta condo and Chicken Salad Chick in Stacy Brown’s home in Auburn. What wonderful synergy, as both businesses are committed to serving time-honored, made-from-scratch recipes loved by our customers.”

Once the acquisition is completed, the restaurant chain will start plans to bring Piece of Cake’s products into Chicken Salad Chick locations. The restaurant’s menu will offer Piece of Cake’s whole and by-the-slice cakes as its signature dessert offering and will be available for dine-in, take-out, digital ordering and drive-thru.

The bakery’s 10 Atlanta-area locations will continue regular operations and retain its 120 employees at their current positions.

“… I am pleased to soon have the opportunity to bring them to all our Chicken Salad Chick guests,” said Scott Deviney, president and CEO of Chicken Salad Chick. “This collaboration further enhances our mission of spreading joy, enriching lives and serving others … one piece of cake at a time.”
