LAS VEGAS — In a competition of professional decorators, only one can take the cake … but, luckily, there were a range of categories for bakers to compete in at the Pillsbury Bakers’ Plus Creative Cake Decorating Competition at the International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE).
“As IBIE gathers the global baking industry, it provides a unique platform to celebrate the artistry and technical expertise of these elite decorators,” said Marissa Sertich Velie, executive director of the Retail Bakers of America. “It’s more than a contest — it’s an opportunity for them to showcase their talents in front of industry leaders, peers and an enthusiastic live audience.”
In addition to the crowning title, six teams of bakers competed in four categories: wedding cake, rolled fondant, sculpted cake and buttercream. Teams were challenged to create intricate sweet good designs, blurring the lines between edible art and technical skill.
Sabrina Sigouin of La Belle Patisserie and Sandra Major of Le Sucre au Fou were named the Overall Winners of this year’s competition.
The 2025 category winners include:
Wedding Cake: Aaron McInnis and Juanita Tobin (Happy Belly Cakery)
Rolled Fondant: Jean Schapowal and Jesse Lesser (Cakes with Character)
Sculpted Cake: Sabrina Sigouin (La Belle Patissiere) and Sandra Major (Le Sucre au Fou)
Buttercream: Carlos Mendez and Agnieszka (Agnes) Mendez (Cakes by Carlos)
“We are proud of all the cake decorators who competed for this year’s Pillsbury Bakers’ Plus Grand Champion Trophy,” said Cathy Meyer, director of foodservice ingredients at General Mills Foodservice. “This event celebrates the artistry of some of North America’s most talented decorators, and we’re proud that Pillsbury products help them bring their visions to life with the quality and consistency bakers rely on.”
