BBGA celebrates new Certified Bread Bakers

CRANSTON, RI — The Bread Bakers Guild of America (BBGA) has announced the latest class of bakers who passed the association’s certification exam to become Certified Bread Bakers. The exam was held in October at the Artisan Baking Center in Petaluma, CA.

The new Certified Bread Bakers include Jen Heide, assistant pastry chef at The Everglades Club in Palm Beach, FL; Geoffrey Higgs, baking instructor at the King Arthur Baking School in Burlington, WA; Anja Curwen, bench baker at Brimfield Bread Oven in Akron, OH; Ben Garcia, head baker at Farmstead Bakery in St. George, UT; and Rachel Wyman, owner of Rabble Rise Bakery and instructor at the Culinary Institute of America in New York.

The Artisan Baker Certification Program established and measures core skills at three distinct levels. The certification includes a comprehensive online test and a two-day practical exam where bakers showcase skills including fermentation control, shaping, scoring and time management.

The next certification is set for March 14-16 at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI. Visit the BBGA website for more information.
