HOWELL, MI — CRUST – a baking co., an independently owned artisan bakery founded by Chad and Marybeth Brennan, announced plans to open a new retail bakery and cafe in downtown Howell, MI, in early 2027. The expansion comes nearly 15 years into business.

For Chad and Marybeth, the decision to expand is about more than entering a new market; it’s about engraining the bakery in a community that has deeper roots, as Chad grew up in Hartland, MI, and Marybeth in Fenton.

While the new location will introduce CRUST to new customers, the company intends to maintain the craftsmanship and personality that have been central to its identity. Since its beginning in 2012, CRUST has been committed to traditional baking methods, quality ingredients, handcrafted food and genuine hospitality.

The bakery has grown its reach through its flagship location, restaurant and cafe, and its counter at the Flint Farmers Market, as well as its e-commerce site, wholesale partnerships and other retail channels.

“Our goal has never been simply to open more locations,” Chad said. “Growth has to make sense for our people, our company and the community we’re entering. We believe Howell checks every one of those boxes. We want to build something that will become part of the community and be here for a very long time.”

Customers can expect the artisan breads and pastries that have defined the bakery, such as the Berry Bliss Roll, served alongside cafe offerings and prepared food.

Construction and development work will continue throughout the remainder of 2026, with CRUST targeting an opening during the first quarter of 2027.
