ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — In addition to the Artisan Bakery Expo East (ABEE), set for Oct. 1-2 at the Atlantic City Convention Center, attendees can choose from five workshops with three hosted on Sunday and the other two on Monday.
Each session costs $250 per attendee.
OCT. 1
Wafer Paper Workshop | 8 – 11 a.m. | Show Floor Demo Area
This workshop, led by Lisa Mansour, head of the NY Cake Academy, teaches attendees how to work with wafer paper to create trending cake decorating designs. This includes turning wafer paper into a fabric-like ruffle and using the ingredient to create a shimmering effect. Lisa will also demonstrate how to cover a dummy cake with fondant and manipulate the material with two new techniques.
Gum Paste Flowers & Leaves For Beginners Part 1 | 4-7 p.m. | Show Floor Workshop Space
On the first day of this workshop, Todd Keeley of the Pennsylvania College of Technology, will demonstrate how to create realistic roses, cala lilies and leaves our of gum paste by creating buds, rolling, cutting, edging and assembling.
Hands-On Cartoon Cakes | 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. | Show Floor Demo Area
Mitchie Curran, owner of Mitchie’s Munchies, will educate attendees on basic techniques for creating novelty cake designs. She will also cover hand modeling, color rendering, edible internal structure and more. Participants in this workshop will receive a certificate of completion in addition to recipes and shopping code discounts.
Oct. 2
Fundamentals in Molded Chocolate & BonBons | Show Floor Workshop Space
Charles Niedermyer, chef instructor at the Pennsylvania College of Technology will led this workshop. He will also be leading seminars and demos throughout ABEE.
Gum Paste Flowers & Leaves For Beginners Part 2 | Show Floor Workshop Space
Continuing the education from the first session, Todd will teach attendees how to apply and set luster colors on the flowers created in the previous session. The workshop will conclude with combining the gum paste flowers into a bouquet.
